A little something to break the monotony…

Julia Noble lives and works in London, she graduated from the Cass School of Art in 2014.

The title of this exhibition is a line from Will Smith's rap song "Summertime". The work is inspired by the colours of summer and those of the Mediterranean Islands in particular.

Noble's works incorporate multiple processes layered on top of each other, involving painting, stitch and printmaking techniques which ultimately determine their compositional integrity. Her work is an investigation into the possibilities of Painting using all kind of materials. From a distance the works look as if they have been directly painted on to the canvas, it is only on closer inspection they reveal that they are not.

Each work in this series started as a monoprint on paper upon which acrylic ink was applied. Stitching is then employed as a drawing tool to create line which disrupts the surface in a way which is not predetermined. The large works involve a process whereby four (or in some cases six) panels are stitched together to create the final pieces which evoke a different kind of space and energy using Cubist-like multi faceted viewpoints.

Noble's paintings offer the viewer order, disruption and order again through a kaleidoscopic prism of beauty.
